TYPES OF USAGE
STEEL
- It is a very durable material with a competitive price and it maintains its characteristics unaltered over time
-
Good elasticity that allows it to absorb vibrations while maintaining a good rigidity
-
If welded with conjunctions, the frame is heavier but can be more easily customized
-
On average, heavier than other materials
-
It suffers from oxidation and rusts easily if not handled with care
It is the most popular material among those who enjoy cycling holidays, those who venture on dirt roads with a bike without suspension or those looking for a cheaper product
CHROMED STEEL
- This material makes the frame more resistant and stainless
- Lighter than classic steel and more flexible than aluminium
- On average, heavier than aluminium and carbon
The frames made with this material are suitable both for the asphalt and for uneven paths ALUMINIUM
-
Extreme lightness, but it requires larger diameters to compensate for the poor mechanical strength, thus giving it a considerable rigidity too. Can be unrivalled for short and frenetic rides
-
It is very malleable and can be moulded with relative ease
-
Does not fear rust
-
Significant stiffness which can lead to excessive vibration. To resolve this problem, aluminium is used in conjunction with carbon fibre sections
-
It has no elastic capacity and tends to accumulate fatigue losing mechanical properties. An ultralight alloy frame can lose its properties after a few seasons of high-level use
-
It requires an artificial aging thermal process for the optimization of the mechanical qualities
It is great for those who want a not too expensive but reliable bike
CARBON
-
Extreme lightness
-
Maximum comfort: the carbon is able to absorb vibrations and distribute them throughout the entire structure
-
Ability to optimize the mechanical qualities of the structure depending on the need by choosing different fibres and optimizing the overlap
-
Very high prices
-
Much easier to destroy than those made of steel or aluminium and can easily break even after strong shocks or deep abrasive actions
-
When they break, you have to throw them away because they cannot be repaired
This type of frame is chosen by those seeking a professional top-of-the-line bike

- How is a bicycle made?
- Bike Selection by Path
- The choice of the type of bike to buy is very affected by the type of path you want to deal with.
OFF-ROAD AND DIRT - For very rough terrains we recommend the "Mountain Bike" category, as it has a more massive structure than a city bike and thus it is most suitable for riding on winding roads such as mountain’s.
MTBs can be classified into:
- Rigid MTBs are lacking suspensions and they might be better suited for those who do not want to go off-road or do not want to delve on very uneven paths. Designed for those who do not want to go on extreme trails but prefer simply enjoying less demanding dirt roads. Suitable also for country roads with many holes and bumps
- Front Suspension MTBs, also called Suspended or Hardtail, are characterized by the front suspension fork which ensures a troke of about 80-100 mm. They are lighter than the dual suspension and more easily manoeuvrable.
- Full Suspension, (Dual Suspension or Softail): they have both suspension fork and frame and are built to provide total shock absorption and be ideal in harder and uneven tracks.
SAND-SNOW-MUD
For maximum enjoyment of this type of trails, Fat Bikes have been designed. Born as an evolution of Mtbs, they are bicycles that have a "fat wheel" and low tire pressure as main characteristics. The increased section allows the bike to have absolute adherence, while the pressure (which may vary from 0.5 to 1.0 bar) allows it to "float" on soft surfaces such as snow, mud or sand or particularly uneven roads, such as riverbanks, woods or railway sleepers. Although common idea is to believe that this type of bike is heavy to handle, the weight of a fat bike is very similar to that of a mountain bike and the frame can be either in steel or aluminium.
CITY
To more easily address the chaos and traffic of the city, the ideal solution is the bicycle. For those who need to ride in town, the recommended bike category is represented by "Trekking or Touring and Sports or Dutch Style".- These bikes are designed also for those who love cycling holidays and facing travels switching from comfortable rides on paved roads to rough terrains.
- ROAD AND MIXED
On urban routes, the hybrid bicycle is also suggested; a particular type of bike born from the compromise between the racing bike and the mountain bike. Hybrid has some Mtb features and some other peculiarities from racing bikes. The riding position is more comfortable and relaxed, the wheels have a larger diameter than the other two models, offering a greater stability and lifespan, the frame is capable of absorbing the weight better, bringing comfort and absorption of the stresses, both in town and on dirt roads; the rims are lighter to offer a faster pace, and the components are lighter with speed gear ratios. Hybrid bicycles are ideal for mixed trails, both urban and suburban and is the perfect solution for those looking for a bike which is versatile for every occasion. - RACING
The racing bike was born for racing and athletic competitions. To offer higher speeds, it is designed with extremely lightweight materials and has an aerodynamic structure.
- Electric Bikes
- The different types of e-bikes differ among themselves especially for the type and placement of the motor, which can be mounted:
- On the front hub (Front Hub Motor)
- On the rear hub (Rear Hub Motor)
- Central to the frame (Central Motor)
Front Hub Motor: Integrated on the front wheel hub
ADVANTAGES
DISADVANTAGES
- Easy installation
- Low costs
- Highly efficient, since exploiting the motor brake inside the hub, you get a power regeneration
- Difficult manoeuvrability in both steering directionality and in terms of braking on wet soils
- False sensation of pedalling being it disconnected from the central hub
- Constant speed
Rear Hub Motor: Integrated on the rear wheel hub
ADVANTAGES
DISADVANTAGES
- Easy installation
- Low costs
- Highly efficient, since exploiting the motor brake inside the hub, you get a power regeneration
- Most widely used method for converting a conventional bicycle to e-bike
- Poor flexibility in gears

Central Hub Motor: Integrated on the central hub
ADVANTAGES
DISADVANTAGES
- More eye-catching aesthetics
- Great manoeuvrability and excellent traction uphill with the help of the torque sensor
- Natural pedalling
- Seamless integration between motor and transmission
- Long Autonomy
- Higher cost
- Difficulties in the conversion of a traditional bike
- Differences between the various motors
The electric bikes’ motors are divided into two types:
- Brushed: Also called "with brushes", it is the classic alternating current electric motor. The technology of this type of motor is rather outdated as it makes the motor heavier, cumbersome and less efficient.
- Brushless: Defined "without brushes", it is a direct current electric motor with a permanent magnets rotor and the rotating magnetic field stator. Unlike a "brushed" motor, it needs no electrical sliding contacts (brushes) on the rotor shaft to work. The switching of the current flowing in the stator windings and therefore the change in orientation of the magnetic field generated by them, is done electronically. All this makes the motor quieter, lighter and significantly reduces the periodic maintenance needed. The Brushless motors are widespread today on all types of electric bikes of good quality and they differ from each other depending on the brand and performance:
- Aikema: Since 1986 the Aikema company produces electric motors for e-bikes that strictly follow the instructions dictated by the ISO9001-2000 quality management systems. The Aikema motors are small, lightweight, quiet and very powerful.
- Ansmann: A world leading German company in the development of energy supplies that is positioned with excellent results even in the pedelec motors market. The excellent performance of these motors allow the company to offer a warranty of up to 3 years on these models and 4 years on the battery.
- Bafang: High quality and performance motor with lower costs. The Bafang is compact, with a clean and completely closed design and is mounted on midrange bicycles.
- Bafang M420: The Bafang M420 engine, born as an evolution of the M400 model, guarantees the same indicative values, increasing the performances in terms of starting cue, and assisted thrust, perceptible above all on uphill routes. The mid-drive constantly samples relevant information at a frequency of up to 80k Hz via a torque sensor and two speed sensors which are all highly sensitive. The resulting data on crank torque, vehicle speed and the speed of rotation of the pedals is made available to the controller, ensuring precise control of the vehicle while achieving the highest possible efficiency. The M420 puts the rider in complete control. In spite of a generous power output and a maximum torque of more than 80 N.m, the motor operates in virtual silence.
